Ontario Includes Truck Drivers in Expanded Eligibility for Emergency Childcare

(TORONTO, Jan. 25, 2021) -- The Ontario government announced today it will further expand eligibility for the targeted emergency childcare program to additional workers, including truck drivers, who are performing critical roles in their communities.

This expansion is intended to support workers and their families with childcare options at no cost within regions where students continue to learn remotely. This benefit will take effect on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021 and builds on the existing list of eligible workers.

“Today’s announcement is yet another example of the Province of Ontario showing its commitment and respect for our industry during the pandemic,” said OTA Chair Wendell Erb. “Our driving community truly appreciates this consideration as they continue to keep our economy moving across North America while their children are learning from home.”

To determine eligibility for emergency child care, interested parties can use the following contact information for each  municipality or municipal service system manager.
